What To See In Wayanad, Kerala
Before deciding what to see in Wayanad you must actually decide to visit Wayanad for at least three days .
Wayanad is a district in northern Kerala which is quite big in size. The tourist locations are spread across far-flung locations, hence at least three days is required.
What to see in Wayanad
1. Lakkidi view point: This is the entry point to Wayanad district from Calicut (Kozhikode) on the Calicut-Mysore-Bangalore highway (NH 766)
This is the best place to experience the monsoon but be wary to carry your warm clothes too, between June and February.
2. Chain Tree: This tree tied to a chain is located in Lakkidi town on the national highway itself (NH 766).
Legend says that a tribal named Karinthandan was killed at the spot by the British in pre-independence days after he showed the route through the jungle.When his spirit started creating problems in the locality, it was tied to the tree branch by an exorcist.
Curiously the branch hasn't grown ever since, though the entire tree has grown manifold.
What to see in Wayanad
3. Pookode lake : This is a natural lake located 3 kms away from Lakkidi town.
Boating and trekking facilities are available in the lake by the district promotion council.
4. Soochipara waterfalls: It is also known as Sentinel waterfalls and is located off the Kalpetta- Ootty road.
The white gushing waterfall amidst the dense deciduous forest is nature's masterpiece because of it's three-tiered structure.Trekking down thirty minutes to the waterfall from the parking area is a good experience but it is worth the effort.
What to see in Wayanad
5. Chembra peak: It is a trekkable mountain peak located 9 kms south of district headquarters Kalpetta near Meppadi town.
The height of the peak is 2100 metres and offers some breathtaking views adjoining Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.
The highlight of the trek is the heart-shaped lake on the route. Avoid Monsoons for this trek as it may be very slippery.

6. Banasurasagar dam: It is located 21 kms from Kalpetta and is the largest earthern dam in India. The dam gets it's name from the Banasura hill on the foot of which this is located.
Lots of trekking and resort facilities are available around the dam and speed boating facilities are available too.
The view of the dam from atop nearby hills and mountains is just exhilarating.
What to see in Wayanad
7. Neelimala view point :(27 kms from Kalpetta) :Located in Vaduvanchal, close to Kerala-Tamil Nadu border , this is the view point to to see the famous Meenmutty waterfalls.
The path to the viewpoint is through coffee plantations, dense forest and foliage of the forest.
It is an overwhelming experience to see gushing streams and verdant patches of land in this salubrious climate of mist.
The entry fee is in the range of INR 500 for a jeepful of people.
8. Wayanad wildlife sanctuary: It borders the the Nagarhole and Bandipur regions of Karnataka, and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu, and together is known as the Nilgiri biosphere.
It is home to elephants, tigers and a wide range of flora and fauna unique to this region.
Elephant and jeep safaris are arranged here by the forest department and the permitting authority is the wildlife warden of the sanctuary.
