Annadanam in Guruvayur Temple

"Annadanam" or "Prasada oottu" (Ootu in Malayalam) means feeding and  is the process of providing food for the needy and poor devotees who throng the Guruvayur temple, by richer devotees.  It has an element of  seva (welfare) and a concern for happiness of fellow human beings.

The origin of this practise can be traced to ancient times when the aged, destitute and the sick could not earn anything from living and lived around temples for shelter and food.  

Hence when the well-to-do devotees wanted to thank Guruvayurappan  or seek forgiveness for misdeeds, they would offer "Annadanam" and provide food to people who had no means to eat and survive. 

It is believed that providing free food to the poor and  needy will clear all the sins that have been accumulated. 

Eventually this practise of "Annadanam " became a part of the religious practises of Guruvayur temple.

• Location: Annalakshmi dining Hall 

• Timing: 10 a.m and 7.30 pm everyday 

• Nature: Free feeding for several hundreds of people.

Breakfast     - INR 15,000/-

Lunch          - INR 1,00,000/-    

Dinner         - INR 15,000/-

Full day       - INR 1,30,000/-

How to sponsor Annadanam in Guruvayur temple:

 

Step 1: Visit  https://guruvayurdevaswom.in/ (Official website) 

Step 2: Register with e-mail and password.

Step 3: Add photo and enter personal details (Compulsory)

Step 4:  If you don't know your star, the website will give clear instructions to help you find it. Enter Star details thereafter.

Step 5: Enter Captcha and click -"I agree to terms and conditions." Then click "Continue".

Step 6: An OTP (one-time password)  will come to your registered mobile number. Click "Submit". 

Step 7:After screen shows " Mobile number verified successfully", please proceed to next step.

Step 8 : Enter e-mail ID, password, enter CAPTCHA and log in again.

Step 9: Click "OK" of privacy policy of Guruvayur devaswom to proceed.

Step 10:Click "Donation" on the menu header.

Step 11. Select "Annaprasadam"/"Prasadaoottu" under Type

Step 12. Select donation category - 

                Prasada ootu - Breakfast/ orDinner/or Lunch/ One (full day) / other amount as per your requirement. I selected "Breakfast".

Step13: Select "offering date"

Step 14: Enter full address details and agree to terms and conditions

Step 15: Click "Add to Wishlist" and  click "proceed to payment"

Step 16: "Select Payment Gateway-Bank of Baroda" when you see this. 

Agree to terms and conditions. 

Step 17: Enter card details(debit, credit, Net banking or UPI) and make payment. 

Step 18 : You will get the booking confirmation on the screen and can  also check the transaction history. You can take the printout of the transaction, should you desire.

Many people visit Guruvayur temple on the day of their "Annadanam/ Prasadaootu" and personally satisfy themselves and pay obeisance to Lord Guruvayurappan.
