Kerala is a destination which has been listed as one of the "must-see" places in  one's lifetime by National Geographic channel, so the question on every visitor's mind would be "Where to visit in Kerala".

Tourists need to spend at least 7-10 days if they want to visit both south and north Kerala because all the destinations are far-flung. Looking at the diversity that the state offers , one would really be wondering where to visit in  Kerala. 

Kerala's where to visit places can be divided into southern and northern Kerala. The destinations mentioned below are only the prominent ones in an itinerary of where to visit in Kerala.

Southern Kerala's prominent destinations include the following and the itinerary must start from Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum).
  • Kovalam beach
  • Ponmudi hills
  • Thiruvananthapuram (Capital city)
  • Varkala beach 
  • Aleppey backwaters (Specifically mentioned by National Geographic channel )
  •  Kumarakom backwaters/bird sanctuary 
  • Munnar hill station
  • Eravikulam national park
  • Periyar national park 
  • Vagamon hill station 
  • Kochi/ Fort Kochi (previously Cochin)
  • Athirapilly water falls (of  Bahubali fame)

Where to visit -Kerala

Northern Kerala's prominent destinations include the following and can ideally originate from Kozhikode (Calicut). 
  • Bekal fort (Kasaragod district)
  • Chembra peak, Wayanad
  • Ranipuram hills,Kasargod 
  • Edakkal caves, wayanad
  • Muzhappilangad drive-in beach, Kannur
  • Pakshipatalam bird cave, Wayanad
  • Meenmutty waterfalls, Wayanad,
  • Thusharagiri waterfalls, Kozhikode
  • Nilambur teak museum, Malappuram
  • Silent Valley project, Palakkad 
  • Wayanad wildlife sanctuary
  • Kalpathy heritage village , Palakkad.

The unique beauty of Kerala is that beaches (Kochi ), backwaters (Aleppey) and hill station (Munnar) are all located in a radial distance of 100 kms. Such a diversity makes Kerala really a must-see destination in one's lifetime.
