1. Ladakh (Chadar Trek) : It is my hot favourite but is not for everyone and anyone. If you really have some amazing fitness, only then I would suggest this for you. The trek distance leading to the  Zanskar river is 62 kms and you would be at an altitude of more than 11,000 feet.
                                                                             Chadar trek- Ladakh

You would be trekking through some of the most uninhabitable regions in the world in sub zero temperatures and you may remember scenes from Leonardo Di Caprio's "The Revenant", but I do hope it will not be as terrifying as the movie.

Ladakh has a different culture from the rest of India and is superbly unique.

Trekking prices start at Rs.19,500/- per adult.

2. Auli Ski Resort (Uttarakhand) : Why visit Switzerland when you have Auli Ski Resort in Uttarakhand? If you want to be the desi James Bond skiing away to glory in this Himalayan  region bordering Tibet- Go for it!
                                                                                       Auli Skiing Station

From Skiing Packages to Skiing courses to snowboarding courses- everything is available at the Ski School . The expert mountaineers that Garhwalis are, you will surely a thing or two before you become a full-fledged skiing James Bond!

Auli-Joshimath ropeway of 4 kms length  at an altitude of 9000 feet above sea level  is another highlight of this adventure destination.

3. Roopkund lake trek, Uttarakhand: Hey I really love the Himalayas and the mountains, so I am still around them.

Not for the faint-hearted,  Roopkund trek (it is a lake) is really tough for those not in perfect physical condition.
Snowclad Himalayas en route Roopkund lake

Acclimatization and mental preparedness is necessary as the region is covered with snow even in May.

Since camping in meadows is not allowed by the forest department, trekking to Roopkund Lake may not be currently possible.

Plan well before you go this lake at 15,000 feet surrounded by human skeletons!

Time taken : 6 days for the trek
 Fee: Approx Rs.11,500 per person

4. Spiti Valley Trek, Himachal Pradesh: One of the most challenging treks you can ever make is here in Spiti Valley. Head for this destination between July and November when the climate is kinder out here.
                                                                                   Spiti Valley

Roads are dangerous, weather is unpredictable and you should stay with local experts. Needless to say  your fitness level should be pretty good, or else you may get exhausted soon.

Beauty, adventure, suspense -all are part of this really challenging trek. Acute Mountain Sickness is something you should be aware of in this cold and desert mountainous region -hence take all precautions!

5. Rishikesh, Uttarakhand : Well known "Yoga Capital" of the country, it is a great adventure destination too. It is located approximately 250 kilometres from Auli (mentioned above).

Those inclined to bungee jumping, trekking, zip-lining will find their destination here. However my personal favourite is the white water rafting on the Ganga.
                                                                                   Rafting in Rishikesh

Rappelling is another much sought after activity here.

Adrenaline flows freely while being at the flowing Ganga- Not kidding!

There are some great views of the Himalayas from Rishikesh and rest of the day can be spent in meditation and Yoga if you want to balance the adrenaline secretion...๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡

7. Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh: Disclaimer- The Tiger population of this sanctuary is higher than human population in the nearby villages, hence coming face-to-face with a tiger is almost imminent.

The dense green vegetation  of this green sanctuary is really tempting for an elephant ride but some prefer the more safe and secure covered jeeps.

Entering tiger territory no doubt gives you a creepy and scary feeling but the foresters and locals are well equipped to keep you safe.
                                                                              Bandhavgarh National Park

The deep woods and the rustling of the leaves further heighten the eerie feeling when you are out on a walk. Walk it out to feel it!

There have been a umpteen stories of man-eating tigers in Bandhavgarh and that very feeling of uncertainty makes the entire ordeal adventurous.  A must Jungle trail!

8. Karwar  : I know I am skipping a nearby international destination but I prefer it's lesser known and better kept cousin in North Karnataka.

                                                                    Para-sailing in Karwar beach

Fabulous is the word to describe the meeting point of river Kali and the Arabian sea.

I learnt the meaning of the word "Estuary " after seeing Karwar sea coast.

Para-Sailing, Snorkelling  and scuba diving is a great activity here in Karwar. I remember how reluctant I was to venture into para-sailing , but once when I went up in the air and landed down after full ten minutes- I felt like Khiladi Akshay Kumar!

Boy - you must try this and it gives you some real kick which no Harvey Wallbanger will!

And yes- the water sports activities come at a price much lesser than it's neighbouring International cousin!

10. Nagarhole, Karanataka: My favourite jungle destination, Nagarhole never ceases to excite me. It harbours a wide variety of animals and wildlife in it's fold. Nagarhole in Mysore district is a great adventure destination.

It is a part of the Nilgiri biosphere and it is adjoined by Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary of Tamil Nadu and Wayanad  wildlife sanctuary of Kerala .

The Jungle has it's own rules and in order to survive in the jungle , we must observe it's rules. Tigers, Sloth bears, crocodiles, Asiatic elephants, Sambhars, peacocks  are in abundance here.

                                                          Nagarhole national park, Karnataka

There are regular jungle safaris and trips by  watering holes and the dense forests are enchanting. Ensure not to disturb animals and their habitats.

Some thrilling adventure activities include Elephant camping, trekking, Open jeep safari, crossing jungle bridge etc. Kabini river boat riding.

Adventure destinations require fitness, mental preparedness plus stocking up emergency medicines and good local support in order to be enjoyed fully

If you are game for it, I promise you will have a whale of a time in these destinations.
